PS1 RGB SCART Capacitor Rule, PSone C605/C606 Fix & GunCon Lightgun Sync
Introduced on the original 1994 Japanese SCPH-1000 PlayStation and retained unchanged on the PSone, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3, Sony's 12-pin Multi-AV port outputs native 15 kHz Analog RGB, S-Video (Luma/Chroma), Composite Video, +5V DC, and CD-quality Stereo Audio. On early audiophile SCPH-1001/1002 models, separate RCA phono jacks were also fitted alongside the Multi-AV port.
- Why PS1 RGB SCART Cables Need 220 µF Capacitors: The Sony CXA1645 / CXA2075 encoder inside the PS1 has internal 75 Ω resistors on R, G, and B, but NO AC-coupling capacitors. Place a 220 µF 10V electrolytic capacitor (+ leg toward PS1) in series on Pin 11 (Red), Pin 9 (Green), and Pin 12 (Blue).
- Sync-on-Luma (Pin 8) vs GunCon Lightgun Tap (Pin 6): Wire Pin 8 (Luma) to SCART Pin 20 for rock-solid RGB sync without composite dot-crawl. If you play Time Crisis or Point Blank on a CRT with a Namco GunCon (G-Con 45), wire an inline female yellow RCA jack to Pin 6 (Composite Video) or Pin 8 (Luma) so the lightgun can read timing pulses!
- Missing +5V on Pin 10 (TV stays in Composite mode): If your TV won't auto-switch to RGB mode, check the tiny surface-mount fuse PS605 (ICP-N15 / 750mA) near the Multi-AV port on the PS1 motherboard — hot-plugging cheap cables often blows PS605.
