Critical Console Workbench Polarity, Pico Fuse & SMD Capacitor Warnings
1 NES-002 (9V AC) vs. DC Consoles
The front-loading NES-001 has an internal bridge rectifier and accepts 9V AC, whereas the Genesis Model 1, Master System, Sega CD, PC Engine, and Famicom require 9V–10V DC Centre-Negative! Plugging a 9V AC NES brick into any DC console instantly destroys its 7805 regulator and filter caps.
2 Soldered Green Pico Fuses
"Dead / No Power LED" on a SNES (F1 1.5A), Sega CD (F301 2.5A), or PlayStation 1 (PS601–PS605 ICP-N protectors) is almost always a blown green axial Littelfuse Pico fuse or SMD IC protector caused by a brief polarity slip or hot-plugged peripheral.
3 Mandatory Recaps & Lynx MOSFET
Every Sega Game Gear, PC Engine Duo, and 1990–93 SNES suffers from leaking 1990s SMD electrolytic capacitors, while the Atari Lynx Q12 MOSFET buck stage will dump +9V onto the +5V rail if its Zener/MOSFET stage fails!
