Amstrad CPC vs. BBC Micro RGB SCART Cable Resistor Guide
Both the Amstrad CPC family (CPC 464, 664, 6128) and the Acorn family (BBC Micro Model B, B+, Master 128, and Acorn Electron) use a 6-pin 240° circular DIN socket (DIN 45322) for RGB output, but with different pin mappings and voltage levels: the Amstrad Gate Array outputs 3-state ternary (Low/Mid/High) RGB for 27 colours, while the BBC Micro Video ULA outputs 5 V TTL digital RGB.
- BBC Micro / Acorn Electron RGB SCART Cable: Put a 270 Ω to 330 Ω resistor in series with Pin 1 (Red -> SCART 15), Pin 2 (Green -> SCART 11), and Pin 3 (Blue -> SCART 7) to drop 5 V TTL to 0.7 Vpp. Put a 470 Ω resistor in series with Pin 4 (CSYNC -> SCART 20), and wire Pin 6 (+5 V) through a 180 Ω resistor to SCART Pin 16 (RGB blanking).
- Amstrad CPC 464 / 6128 RGB SCART Cable: Because the CPC already has internal series resistors on R, G, B, wire Pins 1, 2, 3, and 4 directly (or via 100 Ω protection resistors) to SCART Pins 15, 11, 7, and 20. Leave DIN Pin 6 (Luminance) disconnected!
- Amstrad CPC SCART Pin 16 Blanking & Stereo Audio: Feed +5 V from the CPC's 5 V DC power jack (or a USB plug via a 150 Ω resistor) to SCART Pin 16, and wire a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug from the side of the CPC into SCART Pins 6 (Left), 2 (Right), and 4 (Audio GND).
