Rehoming Bench

The Rehoming Bench is a non-commercial, community-driven initiative operated by Martin "Smiggy" Smith through which donated retro computing equipment, consoles, peripherals, and electronics are refurbished and rehomed to individuals or organisations who demonstrate a genuine use for them. By applying for, nominating someone for, or receiving any item through the Rehoming Bench, you agree to the following terms:

General Rules

Strictly Non-Profit: All items on the Rehoming Bench are donated and provided to recipients completely free of charge. No money changes hands at any stage. The Rehoming Bench is not a shop, lottery, or competition.
UK Only: Items are shipped within the United Kingdom only. Postage and packaging costs are covered by Smiggy's World. International applications cannot be accepted.
One Item per Household: A limit of one rehomed item per household applies within any rolling 12-month period. Duplicate or excessive applications may be declined.
Selection Criteria: Applications are evaluated using an internal weighted scoring rubric considering need and utility, project feasibility, community contribution, and logistics. The site administrator retains sole and absolute discretion over all selection decisions. No correspondence will be entered into regarding individual scoring or selection outcomes.
No Guarantee of Availability: The listing of an item on the Rehoming Bench does not guarantee it will be rehomed. Items may be withdrawn, re-listed, or retained at any time without notice.

No-Resale Pledge

All recipients must agree, at the time of application, that they will never resell any rehomed item for financial gain. This includes selling on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, car boot sales, classified ads, or any other channel.
Rehomed items are intended for personal use, educational projects, STEM teaching, community initiatives, or other non-commercial purposes as described in the application.
If an item is no longer wanted or needed, the recipient should contact Smiggy's World so the item can be rehomed again or returned. It must not be sold.
Breach of the no-resale pledge will result in permanent exclusion from the Rehoming Bench and may be made public on the site to protect the integrity of the programme.

Photo & Update Commitment

Recipients agree to provide at least one photo or written update showing the rehomed item in active use. This may be published on the Legacy Log section of the Rehoming Bench page.
By submitting a photo or story, you grant Smiggy's World a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to display that content on the website. You retain ownership of your photos and content.
Failure to provide an update is not penalised, but future applications may be given lower priority.

Items Provided "As Is" — No Warranty

All items on the Rehoming Bench are donated second-hand goods, many of which are vintage, refurbished, or repaired. They are provided strictly "as is" with no warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
Bench notes and descriptions are provided in good faith based on inspection and testing at the time of listing, but do not constitute a guarantee of condition, functionality, completeness, or suitability for any purpose.
Items may have cosmetic wear, undisclosed faults, missing components, or other defects typical of vintage or pre-owned electronics. Recipients accept this risk when applying.

Limitation of Liability — Rehoming Bench

No liability for item condition: Martin Smith and Smiggy's World accept no liability whatsoever for the condition, functionality, safety, or fitness for purpose of any rehomed item. Recipients use all items entirely at their own risk.
No liability for damage in transit: While we take reasonable care when packaging items for delivery, Martin Smith and Smiggy's World accept no liability for any damage, loss, or destruction of items that occurs during shipping or transit. Items are sent via standard postal or courier services and are not insured unless explicitly stated.
No liability for missing or undelivered items: Martin Smith and Smiggy's World accept no liability for items that are lost, stolen, misdelivered, or otherwise fail to arrive at the recipient's address. While we will make reasonable efforts to resolve delivery issues (such as contacting the carrier), we cannot guarantee the successful delivery of any item and are under no obligation to replace or compensate for undelivered goods.
No liability for personal injury or property damage: Vintage and refurbished electronics may pose risks including but not limited to electrical shock, overheating, fire, or component failure. Recipients are solely responsible for assessing the safety of any item before use. Martin Smith and Smiggy's World accept no liability for any personal injury, death, or property damage arising from the use, storage, or handling of any rehomed item.
No liability for consequential loss: To the fullest extent permitted by law, Martin Smith and Smiggy's World shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind arising from or relating to the Rehoming Bench, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of use, or loss of profits.
Acceptance of risk: By submitting an application, you acknowledge and accept that the Rehoming Bench is a free, voluntary, non-commercial community initiative and that all items are provided at the recipient's sole risk. You waive any and all claims against Martin Smith and Smiggy's World relating to any rehomed item.

Nominations

If you nominate a third party (e.g. a STEM club, school, maker space, or individual), you represent that you have a genuine connection to the nominee and are acting in good faith.
The nominee may be contacted to verify the nomination. Fraudulent or misleading nominations will result in exclusion from the programme.
By nominating someone, you consent to sharing the nominee's name and (if provided) email address with us for the purpose of processing the application.

Application Data

All application data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Application data (name, email, location, intended use, technical readiness, and internal scores) is retained for up to 24 months to enforce the one-item-per-household policy and resolve any disputes.
We reserve the right to decline any application for any reason, without providing an explanation.

Analytics & Visitor Tracking

This website collects anonymous visitor statistics for private analytics purposes, including per-page and per-blog-post visitor data. This data is used solely by the site administrator to understand site usage and improve content. By using this website, you acknowledge that basic visit data (as described in our Privacy Policy) will be recorded. We do not use any third-party analytics services.

Retro Games
