Direct TI-99/4A PAL Component Cable & Panasonic MSX AC-Coupling Cap Note

Systems built around the Texas Instruments TMS9918A/9929A and Yamaha V9938/V9958 VDPs use circular DIN video connectors with three famous regional variations: (1) US NTSC TI-99/4As use a 5-pin 180° DIN (C64 composite compatible), (2) European PAL TI-99/4As use a 6-pin 240° DIN outputting native Component YPbPr (Y, R-Y, B-Y) from the TMS9929A, and (3) MSX computers use an 8-pin 262° DIN in either the Japanese EIAJ RGB-8 pinout or the European Philips/Sony pinout.

  • European 6-Pin PAL TI-99/4A Direct Component (YPbPr) Cable: Wire 6-pin DIN Pin 2 (Y) to Green RCA, Pin 4 (B-Y / Pb) to Blue RCA, Pin 3 (R-Y / Pr) to Red RCA, Pin 5 (Audio) to White/Red Audio RCAs, and Center Pin 6 (GND) to all RCA shields. Plug straight into a RetroTINK 5X/4K or OSSC for crystal-clear component video!
  • Japanese MSX (Panasonic FS-A1ST/GT / Sony HB-F1XD) RGB SCART Note: Many Japanese MSX computers with the Sony CXA1145M encoder omit the internal 470 µF AC-coupling capacitors on Red (Pin 6), Green (Pin 7), and Blue (Pin 8). Fit three 470 µF 10V capacitors (+ leg toward MSX) inside the SCART shell.
