Converting a Modern Mean Well Dual/Triple PSU for C128 or Amiga
Commodore reused the heavy-duty 5-pin Square DIN power connector (originally introduced on the 1985 Commodore 128) on the Amiga 500, A500+, A600, and A1200 — but completely changed the voltages on Pins 2, 3, 4, and 5! Always check the embossed label on the brick before connecting.
- Amiga 500 / 600 / 1200 Bench PSU (e.g. Mean Well RT-50B /RT-65B): Wire +5 V to Pin 1, COM (0 V) to Pin 4, +12 V to Center Pin 3, -12 V to Pin 5, and Chassis Earth/Shield to Pin 2. Note: if -12 V (Pin 5) is missing on an Amiga, Paula's LF347 audio filter op-amp clips and distorts heavily!
- Flat Commodore 128 Bench PSU: Wire +5 V DC (min 3 A) to Pin 1, 0 V DC Ground to Pin 2, and an isolated 9 V AC (1 A) transformer secondary to Pins 4 and 5.
