Summary

The Front-Loader Sega CD / Mega-CD Model 1 is notorious for leaking all 21 surface-mount electrolytic capacitors on its main logic PCB, corroding the 315-5548 ASIC and Ricoh PCM audio traces. Both Model 1 and Model 2 also blow the green 2.5A Pico fuse (F301) if powered with an incorrect adapter.

Safety & Warnings

Sega CD uses 9V DC CENTRE-NEGATIVE (MK-1602)! Never use an AC transformer brick!

Plugging a NES 9V AC brick or a centre-positive adapter into a Sega CD blows the internal 2.5A Pico fuse F301 (and shorts the protection diode or ROHM BA6395 motor driver).

Is This Your Board?

  • Model 1 sits underneath the Genesis Model 1 and uses two boards: a vertical Power/Audio PCB (through-hole) and a main Logic PCB (21 SMD cans).
  • Model 2 sits alongside the Genesis and uses all through-hole radial capacitors.
Verified Check

Verified rows are agreed by two or more independent sources. Check rows are revision-dependent or single-sourced — confirm the value against your own board before ordering.

Recap Tips

  • When a Sega CD is completely dead (no BIOS screen, no LED), check continuity across the green axial 2.5A Pico fuse F301 near the rear DC jack first!
