Diagnosing Torn / Cracked HDMI Ports on Upscalers & Consoles
HDMI Type A uses 19 pins arranged in two interleaved rows (Odd Pins 1–19 on the top row, Even Pins 2–18 on the bottom inset row): three differential TMDS data pairs (Data0, Data1, Data2) + one TMDS clock pair carry video and audio, while Pins 15/16 carry the 5 V I²C EDID Display Data Channel (DDC).
- Missing Colour Channel or Green/Pink Tint: Check continuity on the four differential pairs (Pins 1/3, 4/6, 7/9, 10/12) and the ESD protection arrays right behind the HDMI socket.
- "No Signal" Despite Good TMDS Continuity: Check the tiny SMD Schottky diode and polyfuse feeding +5 V to Pin 18 — if that diode blows, the TV never asserts Pin 19 (Hot Plug Detect)!
