Summary

The SX-64 splits the C64 and 1541 disk drive across multiple plug-in daughterboards inside a tightly packed metal chassis with a 5-inch colour CRT. Heat buildup makes 105 C low-ESR replacements essential.

Safety & Warnings

Discharge the 5-inch colour CRT anode before disassembly

The internal 5-inch colour monitor carries ~14 kV on the anode cap and mains voltage on the internal PSU.

Reseat inter-board wiring harnesses carefully

Poor contact on the multi-pin interconnects between the CPU, I/O and ROM boards is the #1 cause of SX-64 black screens.

Is This Your Board?

  • CPU Board is PCB 251102 (carries the 6510, VIC-II, PLA and 8x 4164 DRAM).
  • I/O Board is PCB 251103 (carries the two 6526 CIAs and 6581 SID).
  • FDD Board is PCB 251105 (1541 logic board mounted above the Alps drive).
Verified Check

Verified rows are agreed by two or more independent sources. Check rows are revision-dependent or single-sourced — confirm the value against your own board before ordering.
