Summary

The Amstrad CPC 6128 doubles the RAM to 128 KB (sixteen 4164 DRAM chips) and replaces the cassette deck with a Hitachi/Matsushita 3-inch floppy drive powered via a Separate +12V DC / +5V DC input.

Safety & Warnings

Reversed Molex Polarity on the 3-Inch Floppy Drive (+5V and +12V Swapped)!

Amstrad wired the internal 4-pin Molex power connector for the 3-inch floppy drive BACKWARDS compared to standard PC floppy/hard drives (Yellow is +5V and Red is +12V!). Connecting a Gotek or 3.5-inch drive without swapping the red and yellow wires feeds +12V into its +5V logic and destroys it immediately!

Is This Your Board?

  • MC0022A is the classic mainboard with sixteen 4164 DRAM chips and a discrete 40010 Gate Array.
  • MC0052A is the later cost-reduced board.
Verified Check

Verified rows are agreed by two or more independent sources. Check rows are revision-dependent or single-sourced — confirm the value against your own board before ordering.
