Amiga 600
Rev 1.5 / Rev 2B (June Bug) — SMD compact ECS mainboard
Complete Diagnostic Flowchart: Amiga 500/600/1200 Boot Color Code, Chip RAM & Audio/Video Isolation (Commodore Amiga 500 (Rev 3/5/6A) / A600 / A1200)
Summary
The Amiga 600 was Commodore's first surface-mount Amiga and suffers universal SMD electrolytic leakage. Recapping all 16 SMD cans and 5 through-hole radial cans is mandatory to save the Paula audio op-amp (LF347), 555 reset timer, and Sony CXA1145M RGB/composite encoder.

Safety & Warnings
Never twist off SMD cans on corroded pads
Corroded copper pads around C324, C334 and C214 lift easily if twisted cold. Apply fresh flux and leaded solder to both legs, heat alternately with dual tweezers or hot air (shielding plastic connectors with Kapton tape), and lift gently.
Check C303, C304 & C306 polarity around LF347
The Paula audio filter op-amp (U15 LF347) uses both +12 V and -12 V rails. Verify the negative stripe orientation against the PCB before soldering.
Polymer or high-grade 105 C SMD electrolytics
Panasonic EEE-FK / EEE-FT or Wurth polymer SMD capacitors eliminate future electrolyte leakage permanently.
All 10 uF, 22 uF, 47 uF and 100 uF SMD positions sit in tight clusters around the CXA1145 video encoder and keyboard/PCMCIA reset circuit.
Clean the bare pads with IPA and neutralise any green alkaline crust around vias before fitting the new parts.
Is This Your Board?
- Revision is printed on the front-left or rear edge of the PCB (e.g. "A600 REV 1.5" or "REV 2B").
- Look for miniature silver cylindrical SMD electrolytic cans near the PCMCIA slot, audio RCA jacks (C324/C334), and Sony CXA1145M video encoder.
- Dull grey solder joints or a fishy smell when heated confirms electrolyte leakage underneath the plastic SMD bases.
Verified rows are agreed by two or more independent sources. Check rows are revision-dependent or single-sourced — confirm the value against your own board before ordering.

Recap Tips
- Mask the PCMCIA plastic housing and white keyboard ribbon connector with Kapton tape before using hot air.
- Buzz out the continuity from C324/C334 to the RCA jacks and LF347 op-amp pins - electrolyte frequently eats the tiny trace right at the pad edge.
Related Symptoms
- Quiet, crackling or missing stereo audio Caused by leaked C324/C334 or corroded -12V trace to U15 LF347.
- Black screen / stuck in reset Check C611 (4.7 uF) and the 555 reset circuit near the keyboard controller.
