Zigbee Coordinator — CC2652 / EFR32
The TI CC2652 and Silicon Labs EFR32MG are popular Zigbee 3.0 coordinator SoCs. Used in USB coordinators (Sonoff ZBDongle-P, ConBee II) for Zigbee2MQTT and deCONZ.

Circuit Walk-Through
The coordinator forms the Zigbee network, assigns PAN ID and channel, and manages the network key. Router devices (mains-powered) extend mesh coverage. End devices (battery sensors) sleep and wake periodically to poll their parent router for messages. Zigbee2MQTT runs on a host (Raspberry Pi) and bridges Zigbee devices to MQTT for Home Assistant integration.
Signal Structure & Waveform Analysis
Zigbee Network Topology
Zigbee uses a mesh topology with three device roles.
Analysis & Capture Tips
- Use Zigbee2MQTT map to visualise mesh topology and link quality (LQI)
- Check channel for Wi-Fi interference overlap
- Monitor Zigbee2MQTT logs for device rejoins and route failures
- Use TI Packet Sniffer or nRF Sniffer for 802.15.4 packet capture
Bench Troubleshooting & Repair Guide
1. Device Not Pairing
Zigbee2MQTT pairing logEnsure coordinator is in pairing mode. Reset device to factory (usually hold button 5–10s). Check Zigbee channel matches. Some devices require specific coordinator firmware.
2. Mesh Connectivity
Zigbee2MQTT network mapWeak links show low LQI values (<50) in Zigbee2MQTT map. Add Zigbee router devices (smart plugs) between coordinator and distant end devices to improve mesh.
3. Wi-Fi Interference
Wi-Fi Analyser + Zigbee2MQTT channel configIf Zigbee devices drop frequently, check for Wi-Fi interference on the same channel. Move Zigbee to channel 25 or 26 (above Wi-Fi ch 11). Keep coordinator antenna away from Wi-Fi router.
